RealCycler HSVTVA allows the detection of DNA from Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (HSV-1), Herpes Simplex Virus type 2 (HSV-2), and Varicella-Zoster Virus (VZV) in clinical samples. HSV-1 is primarily associated with oral infections, such as cold sores, and can also cause encephalitis. HSV-2 is mainly linked to genital infections and can cause painful ulcers and complications in the reproductive tract. VZV is responsible for chickenpox in children and shingles in adults. All these viruses can remain latent and reactivate under conditions of immunosuppression. Early detection is essential for appropriate treatment and the prevention of severe complications.
